Chinese regulatory authorities have ordered the recall of more than four million vehicles to rectify safety issues linked to electronic and concealed door handle designs. This action includes nearly three million units manufactured by Tesla, highlighting a significant industry-wide concern.
The State Administration for Market Regulation initiated the recall after identifying that these handle systems could obstruct emergency exits and hinder rescue operations, particularly during electrical malfunctions or following vehicle collisions.
Manufacturers impacted by this directive, such as Xiaomi, XPeng, and Geely, are now required to implement specific safety enhancements. These measures include affixing warning labels to vehicles and deploying software updates designed to automatically lower windows in the event of a crash.
