Turkish carriers suspend flights to Iran

Turkish Airlines, AJet and Pegasus suspended scheduled services to Iran on Tuesday, officials said, following Mahan Air’s decision to halt flights to Turkey.

Officials said the cancellations took effect immediately and cover passenger services on the Ankara–Tehran and Istanbul–Tehran corridors. The moves followed what officials described as increased sanctions pressure on Iran by the United States, and the decisions were announced by carrier operations teams, officials said.

The suspensions reduce direct commercial links between the two capitals and complicate travel and cargo routes that many businesses use. Aviation analysts often view route suspensions as an operational response to compliance risk and insurance costs; officials said carriers are treating regulatory and liability exposure as the primary drivers.

The Turkish transport ministry and airline spokespeople did not provide a timetable for resuming services, officials said. Authorities added that passenger rebooking and refund procedures are under way and that affected customers should follow carrier notices for updates.

Officials said they expect a formal review of the suspensions by September 24, 2026, when carriers and regulators will reassess operational and compliance conditions and announce any changes.
