StubHub UK Fined Over Hidden Fees

The United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) ordered StubHub UK to issue refunds to over 50,000 customers and pay a 900,000 pound fine following an investigation into illegal pricing practices. The regulatory action, announced on June 23, 2026, concludes that the ticket reseller failed to disclose mandatory service and delivery fees until the final checkout stage.

The mechanism of the violation involved drip pricing, a practice where unavoidable costs are withheld until the end of a transaction to create the appearance of a lower initial price. Between April 6 and December 7, 2025, this lack of transparency misled consumers regarding the total cost of event tickets. StubHub International attributed the discrepancy to a platform error and has since implemented corrective measures.

Under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act, the CMA exercised its authority to mandate compensation and impose financial penalties without requiring court intervention. StubHub UK received a 40 percent reduction in its fine after admitting to the regulatory breach. Affected customers are expected to receive an average refund of 10 pounds per transaction as the regulator continues broader investigations into online pricing transparency across multiple sectors.
