North Platte Prepares for Week of Community Events

North Platte and Lincoln County residents can engage in a diverse array of community events this week, encompassing arts, sports, and commemorative gatherings. Activities range from art exhibitions and live music to competitions and tributes for first responders.

Artistic Showcases and Live Performances

The Prairie Arts Center, located at 416 N. Jeffers, presents "Tranquility in the Familiar," an exhibition of landscape paintings by Kearney artist Daniel Garringer. The center welcomes visitors Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pal's Brewery, at 4520 S. Buffalo Bill, hosts music bingo Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On Friday, the brewery features bluegrass mandolin player Jacob Joliff live, with tickets priced at $20.

Challenges and Commemorative Tributes

A 9/11 Memorial Walk honoring first responders begins at Pizza Ranch (201 E. 6th) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Firefighters will walk in full bunker gear to Fire Station No. 1. The 20th Century Veterans Memorial (2811 S. Jeffers) hosts the 9/11 Heroes 5K Run & Ruck on Saturday at 7 p.m.; online registration is available. Iron Horse Park (2901 S. Jeffers) holds the Doggy Dash 5K and Puppy Mile, a race for dogs and their owners, on Saturday at 8:45 a.m.

Community Festivals and Cultural Gatherings

The Flower Market (510 N. Dewey) continues its fall open house daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September 12. Cody Park hosts its Annual Arts in the Park event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring crafts, vendors, food, and various activities. The Canteen District downtown celebrates the Viva North Platte Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday from 3 p.m. to midnight, including a queen and princess coronation at 9 p.m., followed by a dance.

Local Engagement and Civic Observances Residents can also attend a country music dance with Ray and Pauletta Gerver at the North Platte Senior Center (900 E. 10th) on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Entry costs $10, with first-time attendees admitted free. The Lincoln County Courthouse Sioux Lookout Statue (3rd & Dewey) hosts a Ringing of the Bells Across America event on Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., featuring a proclamation by Mayor Brandon Kelliher and a speech by Senator Mike Jacobson.
