Mbappe scored twice during the match, bringing his total to 10 goals in World Cup knockout stages, a new tournament record that surpasses the previous mark held by Leonidas and Ronaldo. With 18 goals in 18 career World Cup appearances, the French captain remains one behind Lionel Messi’s all-time scoring record of 19.
The victory also saw Mbappe move into a tie for the current tournament's Golden Boot lead with six goals.
Manager Didier Deschamps extended his own record for the most World Cup victories by a coach, reaching 18 total wins. This performance solidifies France's position as they prepare for their next fixture against Paraguay in Philadelphia this Saturday. The match follows Paraguay's unexpected penalty shootout victory over Germany in the previous round.
