Manipur Tennis Association to Host 44th State Open Championships
The Manipur Tennis Association will host its 44th State Open Cash Prize Tennis Championships from October 17 to 20, 2026, across three venues.

The Manipur Tennis Association (MATA) will host its 44th State Open Cash Prize Tennis Championships from October 17 to 20, 2026. The event will feature competitions across five age categories, including an exhibition match for 70 men's doubles teams, utilizing three distinct venues.
Championship Venues and Divisions
MATA announced that the final matches and the subsequent prize distribution ceremony will take place at the IDTA Tennis Complex in Lamphelpat. The men's open singles and doubles events are scheduled for the THAU Tennis Court in Thangmeiband.
The 35 men's singles and doubles competitions will be held at the SEYO Tennis Court in Akampat. Concurrently, the 45 men's singles and doubles, alongside the 55 men's doubles, will compete at the IDTA complex in Lamphelpat.
Event Structure and Participation
The championships are designed to accommodate a broad range of participants through its five age groups. The inclusion of a 70 men's doubles exhibition match highlights MATA's effort to engage a wider demographic within the tennis community.
This multi-venue approach allows for simultaneous play across different categories, streamlining the tournament's schedule over its four-day duration. The cash prize incentive aims to attract top talent and foster competitive play within the state.
Regional Tennis Development
The Manipur Tennis Association
The annual State Open Cash Prize Tennis Championships serve as a key event in Manipur's sports calendar, promoting tennis development and providing a platform for local athletes. MATA's consistent organization of the event underscores its commitment to nurturing tennis talent and maintaining competitive standards in the region. The distribution of matches across multiple facilities also demonstrates the existing tennis infrastructure within Manipur, supporting large-scale tournaments. Further details regarding the event are available through MATA's office at the Officers' Club, Lamphelpat. Future Outlook for State Tennis The continued staging of events like the State Open Championships suggests a stable future for organized tennis in Manipur. If MATA maintains its current organizational capacity and participant engagement, the tournament could see increased participation and potentially attract broader regional attention.
Conversely, any reduction in prize money or venue availability might impact player turnout and the overall competitive level. The primary open question remains how effectively MATA can continue to expand its reach and secure resources to elevate the championship's profile in the coming years.
