Fenway Sports Group (FSG) said on Friday that a consortium led by Amit Bhatia has bought a minority stake in Liverpool Football Club, a deal that leaves FSG as the majority owner with operational control.

The investor group is named 1892 Holdings. Officials said it brings together the Mittal Family Trusts, EE Capital, and the K5 Sports fund, which lists Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as its lead investor.

The parties did not provide additional detail in the announcement about the valuation, payment terms, or any future options connected to the stake.

Timing follows last season’s league finish

FSG described the deal as a capital injection following a season in which Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League. The confirmation on Friday links new funding to the club’s stated longer-term planning rather than to a change in control.

According to the announcement, the partnership is intended to back Liverpool’s long-term strategic goals. No specific spending plans or targeted projects were disclosed.

Coaching transition and immediate fixtures

The investment arrives as Liverpool prepares for the next campaign under new head coach Andoni Iraola, who is scheduled to take charge in the season opener against Newcastle United on August 23.

FSG did not outline how the new board composition will interact with football operations under Iraola, beyond reiterating that the ownership group will maintain operational control.
