Lebanon Crisis Persists Despite Regional Efforts, Sparking Aid Appeal

Hostilities continue across Lebanon, particularly in the southern and Bekaa governorates, despite a recent US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding and broader regional de-escalation efforts. The ongoing conflict has severely impacted women and girls, who face heightened protection and gender-based violence (GBV) risks, disrupted maternal health services, and reduced access to safe support.

Since early March 2026, over 4,100 people have been killed and 12,115 injured. A social worker, along with her son and parents, was killed in an airstrike in the Bekaa region earlier this week.

Humanitarian Response Funding Challenges

To date, more than 135,000 displaced individuals have received sexual and reproductive health and GBV services through various support channels, including health facilities, mobile medical units, and safe spaces. These services are vital for 200 collective shelters and host communities.

However, a revised Flash Appeal launched this month, seeking $25 million to address the urgent needs of 450,000 people from March to August 2026, has only secured 16% of the required funding. This significant shortfall threatens the continuity of life-saving services.

Humanitarian organizations plan to track funding commitments closely over the coming weeks, with a critical update expected by mid-July on the response capabilties.
