Jacob's Pillow Expands Year-Round Dance Programming

Jacob's Pillow, the renowned dance institution in Becket, Massachusetts, is significantly expanding its year-round programming beyond its traditional summer festival. The organization will host its second annual Fall Season of public performances in October 2026, alongside a continued winter residency program, signaling a strategic shift towards continuous engagement with artists and audiences.

Fall Season Showcases Emerging and Established Talent

The 2026 Fall Season opens with "Fresh Voices in Dance" from October 16-18, featuring world premieres by eight choreographers selected through a global search by Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP). These artists, including Alexander Mockrish, Braylon Browner, and Isabella Howard, represent the first public presentation of YAGP's new choreographic initiative. A free global livestream of this performance is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Fall Season

The following weekend, October 23-25, Jacob's Pillow will host Doug Varone and Dancers. Varone, celebrating 40 years in dance, will present his company's work, creating a dialogue between emerging talent and an established artistic legacy, as noted by Executive and Artistic Director Pamela Tatge.

Collaborations and Winter Residencies Extend Reach

Beyond its Becket campus, Jacob's Pillow continues its collaboration with MASS MoCA in North Adams. Ballet Nepantla will perform "Mística" on October 30, celebrating indigenous, Afro, and Hispanic roots. American choreographer Kimberly Bartosik will present "bLUr," a piece exploring addiction, on December 12 at the same venue.

The institution's winter activities center on the Pillow Lab residency program, launched in 2017 with the completion of the winterized Perles Family Studio. This program supports U.S.-based and international dance artists in developing choreographic projects, offering access to facilities, housing, monetary compensation, and the Pillow's extensive dance archives for 10-day to two-week periods.

Recipients like Bijayini Satpathy, Soles of Duende, and Viveca Vázquez represent a broad spectrum of dance genres, from classical Indian to aerial arts. The recently completed Doris Duke Theatre, with its advanced technological integration, further enhances performance opportunities for these artists, aiding in the realization of tech-driven visions. Year-Round Vision for Dance Cultivation This expansion aligns with a long-term vision for Jacob's Pillow to operate as a continuous hub for dance. The summer festival, which hosted 56 dance companies and 950 artists, crew, and staff for 128 performances and events, remains a core offering. However, the year-round programming, including the Fall Season and the Pillow Lab, aims to solidify the institution's role in nurturing artists and promoting dance education throughout the year, echoing founder Ted Shawn's original intent from 1931.
