Iran Threatens New Weapons After Trump Warns of Total Strike

Iran warned on Monday it would unveil new weapons and shift the geography of the war if President Trump follows through on comments that he could "wipe the country out," officials said.

Hossein Mohebbi, a spokesman for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said, "If a new aggression takes place, we will definitely change the weapons and geography of the war." He added the world would be "astounded" by the new weapons and repeated that the U.S. had "been defeated in this war" but lacked the courage to admit it, officials said.

A U.S. journalist recounted President Trump saying his options included "wiping Iran out, letting them rot economically, or making a deal," and recalled the president asking, "if and when do I blow the entire nation up?" The journalist also reported that Mr. Trump said he would "probably" be open to meeting Iran's president on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly this week.

Data showed the conflict has killed at least 22 U.S. servicemembers and wounded more than 820; it has killed more than 3,500 people in Iran and injured tens of thousands, officials said. Officials said higher oil costs have complicated shipping and added to consumer price pressures.

Watch for any bilateral contact at the U.N. General Assembly through Sept. 26, 2026; officials said a direct meeting or visible de-escalation there would be the clearest signal of whether rhetoric will translate into new military steps.
