Intel said on May 4 it has appointed Alex Katouzian to lead its PC and physical artificial intelligence unit, with the change taking effect in May.
Katouzian joins Intel asourceser more than 20 years at Qualcomm, where he worked extensively in the company’s mobile chip unit developing processors for smartphones and other devices.
At Intel, Katouzian will oversee the company’s core PC business—long a major source of revenue and profit—as well as its physical AI division, which includes systems that power robotics, autonomous machines and other AI devices.
The move comes as Qualcomm steps up efforts to challenge Intel and Advanced Micro Devices’ hold on the PC market with chips based on Arm Holdings technology.
In a statement, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said Katouzian brings “deep technical expertise” and “strong operational discipline,” and will help the company “reimagine client computing beyond the traditional PC” while aligning that effort with growth in physical AI.
Intel also said it has permanently appointed Pushkar Ranade as chief technology officer. Ranade will continue to serve as Tan’s chief of staff.
