Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring with a 22nd-minute penalty, awarded after Lamine Yamal drew a foul from Lucas Digne. Pedro Porro extended the lead in the 58th minute, effectively neutralizing a French side that had remained unbeaten through its previous six matches. France, which struggled to overcome Spain's midfield control, will now compete in the third-place play-off on July 18.
The second semifinal is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, at Atlanta Stadium, where England will face Argentina. Opta projections currently favor England with a 51.9 percent probability of advancing.
