Bond turnover nearly doubles to GH¢4.13bn

Ghana's government bond market saw turnover nearly double, rising 94.65% to GH¢4.13 billion on September 15, 2026, concentrating activity in the mid‑curve.

2031–2034 maturities dominated

Data showed maturities maturing in 2031–2034 accounted for 53.75% of the session's turnover, with the average yield in that segment reported at 13.90%. The bulk of trading was in the belly of the curve, rather than at the short or long ends, the figures indicate.

Dealers said the volume spike revised the intra-day liquidity picture, widening the pool of available bids and offers in the medium term. Market participants use belly yields as a reference for secondary trades and for pricing any new issuance in similar tenors.

The surge follows a period of relatively subdued activity, and the concentration in specific maturities means price moves in those lines could reverberate through nearby tenors. Data showed turnover rose by 94.65% versus the prior comparable session, lifting total traded value to GH¢4.13 billion.

Watch whether turnover remains above GH¢4.0 billion by September 22, 2026, and whether belly yields hold near 13.90% into that date; those metrics will show if this session was an isolated spike or the start of sustained higher activity.
