Turkey Aims for Nationwide 5G Rollout Within Two Years

Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has announced an ambitious plan to extend 5G services across the entire country within two years, following their launch on April 1st. This rapid expansion is backed by a substantial 5G authorization tender held on October 16, 2025, which generated $3.534 billion.

The introduction of 5G technology is expected to revolutionize various sectors by significantly boosting mobile communication speed, capacity, and service quality. Key areas poised for transformation include industrial robotics, autonomous driving, smart cities, intelligent factories, and agriculture.

To foster domestic innovation and production, the 5G tender included specific requirements for operators. They are mandated to use up to 60% locally certified products and up to 30% national communication products. This initiative builds upon the "End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Communication Network Project," launched in 2018, which has already led to the development of critical 5G components such as core network infrastructure and base stations.
