Infant Killed in Brooklyn Shooting
New York City shooting in Williamsburg killed 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore; police detained one suspect and seek a second.

A seven-month-old girl was killed in a shooting in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City, on Wednesday afternoon, after being struck while in her pushchair, police said. The child was identified as Kaori Patterson-Moore. Authorities said the shooting happened at about 13:21 local time (17:21 GMT).
Officials said investigators believe the infant was not the intended target and that the incident is being treated as a gang-related shooting. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) said one suspect has been apprehended, while a second person is still being sought.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described a sequence in which two men rode a motorcycle the wrong way against traffic. She said a passenger on the motorcycle fired at least two rounds. Police said the motorcycle later crashed, which led to the suspected shooter being taken into custody.
Authorities said the person believed to have fired the shots was taken to Brooklyn Hospital with injuries from the crash and was then placed in police custody. Police said no charges directly tied to the shooting have been filed yet. Officials said a search is underway for the motorcycle’s driver, who remains at large.
Police said Kaori Patterson-Moore was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities said no other people were reported killed or injured in the incident.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the death as a tragedy and pointed to the continuing problem of gun violence in the city. Officials did not provide additional details on a possible motive beyond the preliminary assessment that the shooting was gang-related, and police have not publicly identified the suspect in custody.
The case remains active as investigators work to locate the second individual and determine the circumstances that led to the gunfire. Police have not said whether the intended target has been identified, and they have not released further information about the firearm involved or any potential links to other incidents.
