Texas School Shooting: Teacher Wounded, Student Killed

A 15-year-old student shot a teacher and then fatally shot himself on Monday morning at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas, authorities said. The shooting happened at about 8:30 a.m. and triggered an immediate campus lockdown alongside a response from multiple law enforcement agencies.

Officials said the student was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The teacher who was shot was taken to a hospital in San Antonio, but officials have not released the teacher’s condition.

Investigators from the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, the Bulverde Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Rangers are working to establish what led to the shooting. Authorities said they have not determined a motive and have not confirmed how the student obtained the firearm.

Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said the threat was quickly contained. Officials said students were safely reunited with their families at Bulverde Middle School after the lockdown.

The school serves about 260 students, and classes were canceled for Tuesday, officials said. Counseling services are being offered to students and families as the community responds to the incident.

The shooting adds to a small set of cases nationwide in which a teacher was specifically targeted during a school attack. Officials said this incident is one of five reported cases nationwide in the last five years where a teacher was the intended target in a school shooting.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances inside the school, and key questions remain unresolved, including the sequence of events leading up to the shooting and how the weapon entered the campus.
